How to Make a Sun-Damage Skin Repair Balm

A combination of essential oils and oil infusions is a straight-forward way of healing sunburns, raw, peeling, and dry skin. Essential oils such as lavender, tea tree, chamomile, and geranium are wonderful additives that help to repair sun-damaged skin.

The following recipe makes 100 g of a balm that can treat a sunburn for adults and children. But remember, you must wear subscreen and make every effort to minimise sun exposure.

Here is the Recipe and the 5 Stage Method for a Sun Balm

Ingredients

70 g Manago Butter

10 g Dried Calendula Petals (You can also use 10 g of Chamomile Tea taken from pure chamomile tea bags).

18 g Sweet Almond Oil or Grapeseed Oil

0.5 g Lavender Essential Oil

0.5g Tea Tree Essential Oil

1g Vitamin E

Method

1. Add the Mango Butter and Sweet Almond Oil or Grapeseed Oil to a heat safe bowl.

2.Gently heat the oils using the double boiler method until the Mango Butter melts.

3.Add the Dried Calendula Petals or Chamomile Petals to the oil. Let the dried petals infuse the oils for 30 minutes.

4.Remove from the heat, let cool. Then, use a strainer to separate the oil from the dried petals.

5. Add the Essential oils and Vitamin E to the cooled oil. Stir gently, combine thoroughly.

To use, before the balm hardens, pour into a wide-mouth, glass pot such as one used for jams and preserves. Let the balm cool. It will form a hardened paste. Use a dime size amount on sun-burned spots and rough, peeling skin.

Store away from the sun. There's no need to refrigerate.
